"This is the law:
The purpose of fighting is to win.
There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental".
John Steinbeck

On October 16-17-18, 2009 Chapter XXXIII, SFA returns to its home base, Cleveland, Tennessee, for its Fall 2009 Quarterly Meeting. It’s back to The Chalet — now more properly called the Howard Johnson, Cleveland, Tennessee. This is our traditional biennial quarterly meeting where we:
(1) install our new chapter Board of Officers for the 2009-2011 term of office;
(2) conduct a memorial service for Larry Alan Thorne, our chapter namesake, on the weekend closest to the anniversary of his death; and
(3) when we also formally remember all our departed comrades from the chapter.
This meeting will include a formal (catered) dinner, so be sure to check to see if your green blazer still fits, clean the spaghetti sauce off your regimental tie, and review your standards of etiquette and protocol.
Chapter members to help host this event are sorely needed, and volunteers will be greatly appreciated. (Contact the Secretary or any of the other chapter officers.)
Please see the Alert Order on pages 30–32, make your motel reservations as soon as possible, and send in your meeting registration forms so that we’ll know how many are attending. Hope to see all of you there. -
The last transmission heard from El Supremo, our chapter leader currently conducting training in Yerevan, Armenia, was:
This is the last week of classroom instruction; next week we put them through a CPX, and then the week after is graduation and pack up and come home.
This has been a trying time, with the loss of three of our Chapter members in a very short time. I want to extend my thanks to those of you who have coordinated services, informed the membership, provided flowers, attended services and did all the things that show we care for our fellow Association members. I am sorry that I missed the July meeting, I understand that it was an outstanding event and that a big "Thank you and a job well done" needs to go to Bennie and Margie for hosting the Gainesville meeting. We have had exceptionally good attendance at all of the meetings this year, and my hope is that we continue that trend with our meeting in Cleveland. Plan on attending and get the word out to everyone. See you 16-18 Oct, in Cleveland.
