“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
Isaiah 6, Verse 8: Isaiah's Commission
The observant reader will note that there are some new names in the “blamee” block above. Following a hard fought election campaign (in which they were the only nominees for their respective offices), at the April 18 chapter meeting Sid Morgan was elected as chapter President; Art McRae as Vice President; and Wayne Naihe as Secretary/Treasurer for the 2009-2011 term of office, all unanimously. Subsequently, Wayne Naihe, while basking in the glow of victory, reconsidered his election to the two chapter offices (one of which he was going to palm off on his long-suffering wife, Gina, who’s a professional accountant). What had seemed to be a really good idea when he was asked to run for the offices by the Chairman of the Nominating Committee, now (that he was sober) didn’t seem so smart after all, considering that he was already spread pretty thin, working in several areas and on several projects in the Atlanta area. Wayne discussed his options with several chapter members and officers and decided to resign before beginning to work at the two chapter jobs, rather than have to resign later in the middle of the term.
The President-elect then asked Jim Hash, the immediate Past-President, to assume the position of chapter Treasurer. Jim readily acquiesced, largely because he absolutely loves to play with accounting programs and spread sheets, AND he has a new pickup truck that he has to pay off. The President also appointed the VP as the Acting Secretary so that he could maintain tight control over all chapter administration and correspondence and, additionally, he felt that the VP needed guidance and adult supervision. Thus, the roster of chapter officers doesn’t look quite like it did when we departed the meeting in Knoxville, but all three officers have stated their desire to continue the business and work for the best interests of the chapter.

First, I want to thank each and every one of you for your show of confidence and support in electing me as chapter president at the last meeting. I will do my utmost to carry out the business of the chapter.
I think we had a great April meeting in Knoxville and I think Art did an outstanding job in arranging and supporting the meeting. What I really appreciated was the turnout for the meeting. We had a number of members attend who haven’t been seen for awhile, which I find encouraging.
I'm looking forward to the July meeting down in Gainesville, GA. I know Bennie and Margie will once again be great hosts, so please plan on attending. We should have a detailed briefing on what went on at the National Convention. I’m looking forward to seeing you all in Gainesville.
Sid Morgan
President (2009-11),

The Lighter Side
-
“Das dicke Ende kommt noch.”
A phrase from a Psychological Warfare pamphlet prepared for the First Special Service Force and distributed on the Anzio beachhead. It translates as,
“The Worst is yet to Come”
1. Despite the vehement protests of at least one chapter member (who prefers to remain anonymous) — whose protestations included begging, crying, yelling and throwing a fit — the chapter voted 33 to 1 to return to Georgia for its next quarterly meeting. (It isn’t enough that we’ve already spent more time and money in Georgia than “Uncle Billy” Sherman and his notorious band of scalawags: no, we’ve got to go back there again. It would appear that the North Georgia gang — Stickney, Schmus, Dewey, Daves, Johnson and Williams — have once again applied “The Fix”.) Anyway — the Chapter XXXIII, SFA Summer Quarterly Meeting will be held in Gainesville, GA on the weekend of July 24-26, 2009. Please see the Alert Order on page five.
Bennie and Margie McDonald are our hosts once again, and they have not only negotiated very reasonable room rates, but have coordinated with the staff of the Quality Inn and Suites to once again (as they did when we had our January 2009 quarterly meeting there) allow us full use of their bar area as our Hospitality Room. (Several of our members are fascinated by the billiard table.) All these things, together with the Quality Inn’s very good hot breakfast each morning, combine to guarantee a very pleasant weekend experience. (Maybe this time we’ll get over to observe and leave a wreath at Longstreet’s grave.)
(Yes, Ginger, there WILL be another auction.)
We are still developing the agenda, but there will be a long list of items to discuss and vote upon at the business meeting, not the least of which is the meeting schedule for the next two years, to include locations, hosts, and tentative dates. (If there are no volunteers to host a specific quarterly meeting, then one option will be to cancel the meeting for that quarter. We need to determine if this is what the chapter wants to do.)
Please make your motel reservations as soon as possible, so that we’ll know how many are attending and how much beer and “hard stuff” to bring. Hope to see all of you there.
